Get away from civilization and back to nature in this immaculate European style chalet on very pretty and remote Charley Lake. The cabin has soaring ceilings and is all windows so you can enjoy the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains from the inside as well as on hikes and adventures.
Brand new custom sauna that overlooks the lake! Great after a cool dip in the water or roll in the snow.
This is a great spot if you are looking for a quiet retreat. This is a private community with noise ordinances, and because sound travels easily across the lake, we cannot have outdoor music, yelling, or other disturbances here. Please take this into consideration before booking this spot. In warmer weather everyone on the lake sleeps with their windows open, so relative quiet around the campfire and while out on the boats is a necessity. Of course this means you are assured a peaceful holiday as well! In winter we are the only occupied house on the lake so it's not so much of an issue.
The lake and dock are just 15 feet from the house, great for kids and for swimming. We have a custom bar with stools on the deck, perfect for that first cup of coffee in the morning and winding down with a glass of wine in the afternoon. Loons live on this lake, their eerily beautiful call is an amazing sound to experience, it reverberates and echoes off the surrounding mountains. Distant owl and coyote calls also frequently heard. The view across the lake is of wooded land and mountains, just a few houses in sight.
We follow CDC recommendations for cleaning, and provide lots of extras to make your stay easy and breezy. Just bring your food, leave the rest to us. This is an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts as we share all our special spots, like hikes to great views and waterfalls, local skiing, snowshoe and x country spots. Those who prefer to stay home and soak in the Adirondack goodness from the sofa or hammock will be equally pleased. There's a little something for everyone.
Sleeps up to 6, but is the perfect romantic getaway for two.
Property comes with Weber charcoal grill, full chefs kitchen with Viking gas stove and convection oven, dishwasher, good dishes and very high quality pots and pans. Dining by chandelier for 6. High speed internet and a landline provided (no cell service here!). Huge flat screen TV for watching Netflix movies, but no cable. Front lawn has adirondack chairs for drinking in the piece and quiet and the views, more seating found around the fire pit.
Guests have use of an indoor fireplace for those cooler eves, and an outdoor fire pit for stargazing and marshmallow roasting, and of course the new outdoor sauna.
This is a great spot for skiers, snowmobilers, cross country skiing and snowshoe enthusiasts. This cabin was built to take advantage of the beautiful winters here. Exceptionally private, we are the only cabin open in winter on our side of the lake.
Snowmobiling - we are right on the snowmobile trail, no need to haul sleds anywhere. Snowmobile rentals nearby or bring your own. Thousands of miles of trails from here to Canada!
Skiing - fabulous, fun, family friendly local Oak Ski Mountain is just 10 minutes away. A unique small town mountain with big ideas, they have sledding and other winter activities for the kids, great food, fun bar and live music too. Gore is 40 minute drive. Lapland Lake is one of the best cross country ski resorts in the east, 30 minute drive, Garnett Hiil is also amazing, about 1 hour drive.
Fishing - this lake is known for it's ice fishing. You'll likely have all the fish in the lake to yourselves in winter.
Snowshoes - we supply 4 sets - take them across the lake or venture out onto the trails and through the woods.
Hiking - we supply a list of fun winter hikes, including waterfalls which are beautiful in winter.
SPRING, SUMMER and FALL
Swim, kayak, canoe, paddle board, read, bbq, hike, stargaze or do nothing but relax! Charley Lake is a spring fed mountain top lake great for swimming, there are no motorboats. You will have a stand up paddle board, kayak, 2 person canoe and lake floats.
Great hiking and waterfalls nearby, we supply a full list of nature hikes, restaurants, museums and things to do. Saratoga and Lake George are one hour drive, Lake Placid is two. Gorgeous drives to many surrounding lakes in this area.
If you are interested in more action, 15 minutes in either direction are towns which have restaurants, bigger lakes, more hiking, free tennis, basketball, beaches and some stunning waterfalls.
MORE ABOUT THIS CABIN
There are 3 bedrooms. Upstairs is an open loft bedroom with queen bed. Downstairs are two bedrooms, each with one double bed, one also has a fun single loft bunk, for a total of 4 beds in house. There is one bathroom (shower only). We recently added a hand crafted outside wood bar to the deck with lap blankets for those cooler days.
Disclosure: there is a security camera facing the driveway, mostly used to monitor snowfall for snowplowing needs.
WHAT WILL YOU LOVE? The house has amazing views, is quiet, charming and eco friendly, cabin is new and kept in immaculate condition so even the most discerning should be very pleased. Nice privacy (most private in winter) and on a unusually peaceful mountain lake. We supply detailed lists of where to go and what do to in the area, and the house is well stocked with things to make your stay easy and breezy - just bring food and we do ask you to bring your own towels.
What might you NOT Love?
Noise must be kept to a minimum.
The well water has naturally occurring iron (minerals) in it which turns it a slight yellow color. Although perfectly fine to use and drink, it stains our shower and toilet. No washer dryer (or sheets would turn yellow). We provide nice quality linens for the beds, bath mats, hand and kitchen towels (and wash them at the laundromat), but ask guests to please bring their own bath and beach towels, or, for an additional cleaning fee, we will supply bath towels. There is a laundromat down the road a bit.
Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here, as the town does not pick them up. So, like with camping, guests who choose to stay here must agree to take home what they brought in. Leaving a few is fine (less than one bag in total!) but they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. The housekeeper has agreed to take one bag in her car after each cleaning. More than that and there will be an additional fee.
Max 6 persons (includes children). This is a NO PARTIES, NO SMOKING, NO PETS (no exceptions, sorry!), NO LOUD NOISE and allergen free home.
PLEASE NOTE: We get pretty booked up year round, so in the busy summer season our housekeeper has set aside Monday and Friday for us. Our rentals are M-F, M-M, F-M or F-F. Nov to April we can possibly make an exception, please enquire.

We had a lovely weekend getaway at the Charley Lake Cabin! The cabin was cozy and the location was serene. The wood stove was very nice and warmed the cabin well. My son loved the loft bed! The queen bed in the loft was very comfortable. The kitchen worked well. I would’ve preferred a full-sized shower, but the bathroom was adequate otherwise. Overall, a great cabin in a fantastic location!
Couldn't have been happier with this property. It's a beautiful house and very well taken care of. We had a huge storm during our stay that caused blackouts everywhere in the area. The owners made sure we were taken care of and offered us another option as the power was expected to be out for quite some time. We elected to stay and enjoyed the fireplace and peace and quiet of the place...it was very relaxing playing games and reading by lantern light! Would highly recommend this house... We'd go back in a heartbeat!
We just returned from a long weekend at this beautiful home, and what a gem it is! We found the house to be very true to its online description. The owners sent a packet ahead of time, so we had valuable instructions prior to arrival which helped us know what to pack and expect. They also sent us a note the first day of our stay to ensure that everything was going well, which was a nice touch. One of the things that we really appreciated was that everything was labeled or documented; the light switches, the sauna, a book of restaurants and nearby hikes complete with directions and menus. These little touches really made everything easy and carefree for our vacation. We'd highly recommend this home, and would absolutely stay here again!
We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin with it being nestled in the woods, on a small quiet lake and amenities to enjoy nature. The cabin was clean and well maintained. We loved how secluded this cabin was with there being few other visitors on the lake in mid-September. The location is near some great hiking trails and easy to access other aspects of the Adirondacks. The indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit were wonderful for the cool evenings. The dining table is so perfectly located for amazing views whenever you are enjoying a meal at the cabin!
What a thrilling discovery, this gem of a place! The perfect house on the perfect lake. The hosts were gracious and helpful, and our vacation was seamless. We spent hours on the back deck watching the lake in all of its variations – rippling in the wind or gloriously gray with rising morning mist or glittering beneath a perfect sunset. We were hoping for loons – and there they were, daily gliding back and forth, their eerie calls echoing. Even a bald eagle showed up! Loved the house, too. Comfortable and spacious. Inside or outside, we had a great time, and hope to return again.
My husband and I and our 2 children, ages 5 and 7, had a wonderful stay at the Charley Lake property. The home was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. We enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, hiking and having campfires. Tears were shed upon our departure, but we left feeling refreshed and renewed. Hope to make another visit in the future!
Our family was looking for a remote/quiet house on a lake. Charley Lake did not disappoint. House was immaculately clean and well stocked with "kitchen items". Firewood was well stocked inside and outside (we only used the outside fire pit). The neighbors around the lake were friendly and quiet. Since the lake is private, it is not busy out on the water. We brought our own kayaks and gear, but a canoe, SUP, and kayak were available to use at the house. Fishing was spectacular for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, pickeral, and big bluegill/sunfish. Lakefront area was clean and great for swimming and floating on tubes to cool off. The only downside to our rental was the location of the fire pit. It is very close to the house and shed/sauna. Somewhat stressful while in use, but by no means something that would deter us from renting again. Recommended improvements: Possibly consider a slightly larger dock that provides for room for sitting similar to many of the neighbors. Possibly consider moving the fire pit further away from the buildings and more towards the water as permitted. Owners communicated well leading up to our arrival. We really didn't need to communicate during our stay as everything was well prepared and explained prior, which made the stay even more enjoyable. If we vacation in the ADKs again, we will surely consider this property again.
I want to thank Maura for being such a wonderful and gracious host! We had such an amazing time! If you want to get away from the everyday craziness and relax this is the place to go!! Spend the days fishing, hiking, kayaking and the nights lakeside by the fire! It was the perfect getaway!! Oh and the house is so nice, they have everything you need! We will definitely be going back!!
This house is great.... It is exactly what we were looking for. The location is tucked in the woods on a quiet lake with few neighbors. There are 2 small towns nearby for easy access to grocery stores, restaurants and local shops. Looking for peace and quiet? This is your spot. We loved it!
Enjoyed the lake, the sauna, the great location in the ADK. The property was very clean, good instructions, and exactly as described. The kitchen is well equiped, the sauna was wonderful, and the view onto the lake was gorgeous and very peaceful. We did a number of hikes including Mt. Arab near Tupper Lake, Mt Hadley, and Tenant/Hope Creek Falls. Many Thanks, David and Beth
Our family had a wonderful time in the Charley Lake lakehouse. The house was clean and comfortable, providing all the amenities needed and more. Maura is amazing. Very kind, responsive, and quick to answer any questions. We can't wait to return to this quiet, tranquil bit of heaven! Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with our family!
The minute we walked in the house we let out a sigh of relief that it was even more beautiful than the pictures. Clean, organized, bright and gorgeous! The house sits in the best spot on this lovely small lake. We are blessed to have been a guest here. Hopefully we will get to visit it sometime in the future.
We stayed for one week and loved this property. Well designed and comfortable cabin on a quiet lake provided a vacation getaway that exceeded our expectations. We have already made arrangements to return in December to celebrate our first anniversary. Maura and David are wonderful hosts. Thanks for sharing this lovely home.
This home on this quiet lake was just spectacular. Such a lovely designed home on a quiet lake that truly makes you forget all about the real world trials and tribulations. Although we had a full schedule for each of our week long vacation we very much enjoyed returning back at Charley Lake each afternoon. We loved this place so much we have already made plans to celebrate our first anniversary there in December. We visit the Adirondacks often and this was the best place we have ever stayed.
We had an incredible week on Charley Lake. The home was fully accommodating to all of our needs. We cooked most of our meals in the cabin and the kitchen was fully stocked with all the tools needed to enjoy great meals while seated at the big beautiful table overlooking the lake. The beds were so comfortable with my 13 year old son fully loving the loft with the neat ladder. The loft bedroom on top of the spiral staircase was so comfortable we both decided we slept better that week then all year at home! The view each morning of the lake was so serene and calming. We did visit Griffin Gorge one day, per Maura's tip, and it did not disappoint. It was a short drive from Charley lake and we had the gorge all to ourselves as it isn't one of the more highly advertised spots. We liked going into Wells or Speculator for a meal when I needed a break from the kitchen. The boys all played tennis in Wells one afternoon as well which was a nice park to go to...again having it all to ourselves. We most enjoyed fires in the fire pit at night and kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding by day. We visited Saratoga Springs one day as well as Fort Ticonderoga and the Ben and Jerrys Factory in Vermont. All were great day trips but we all agreed...our best days were just being at the cabin all day enjoying all of God's beauty and family time. Thank you for a great week! We will return!
This home and scenery around it is absolutely breathtaking! The home is beautiful wood and windows everywhere that look out onto a peaceful lake! The sauna was amazing! We sat on the deck and watched sunsets and loons, went fishing in the canoe, loved the wood burning stove, and was amazed at the view of the lake from the upstairs bedroom! Maura called to warn us of a storm coming and the electric went out for 2 days!😔Maura and David brought us water and ice and checked on us often. They said we could stay extra days because of the storm so we stayed one more day and had to get home to work. This was so kind of them because the storm wasn’t because of something they did! You can tell how much they love the Adirondacks and their homes by the way they treat people who stay in their homes. I would definitely recommend any of their homes you will not be sorry! The house was immaculate, peaceful, and was decorated like it should be in a magazine! Thank you Maura and David for your kindness and for making our Anniversary so memorable!
My wife and I travel and stay often at Home Away properties, most often they are well appointed, clean and offer many amenities to appreciate. This property on Charley Lake was way over the top and set a new standard for us. We were delighted from the moment we pulled into the driveway and unpacked for our stay and remained so right up to our departure. Our itinerary was to snowmobile for a few days and ski Gore Mountain. This was the perfect location to do both. The access to the trail system couldn't be more convenient, literally right across the road! And what a treat to come home after snowmobiling or skiing all day, start a fire and relax in a cozy atmosphere with family and enjoy the view looking out over a frozen Lake Charley through the beautiful windows this lodge has to offer. The kitchen was fit for a chef and we used it to its full potential since many nights we were too exhausted to travel back out to the local eateries. This is a great property and its nestled perfectly in a private, tranquil location surrounded by one of Mother Nature's most beautiful displays the Adirondack Mountains.
We stayed here over Christmas. Rental property was spot on for us. We had enough space for four, kitchen was nicely equipped for our cooking needs. We loved the sauna. Snow plow service took great care of the driveway and the paths. Also gave us dining recommendation (Alpine Inn). We enjoyed our meal there. As promised the rental was quiet!
This was a short 4 night getaway from a long stretch of stress, this will now be our go to place to recharge! Gorgeous home with a gorgeos view, we felt like we were "one with the lake" as we did not see any one else while there. Binoculars were provided so we had some fun bird watching. Furry warm lap blankets were there so we could sit on the deck and enjoy the view even on the chilly mornings. Loved the charcoal grill for cooking burgers, and we used the sauna every afternoon. We will be return!
We (young couple) stayed at Charley Lake for 4 nights before flying back to London and cannot recommend it enough. It's a perfect mountain getaway for a couple (with or without kids). The house is clean, well maintained and well equipped. It has a great kitchen that has all the appliances you would expect (large fridge, stove, microwave, coffee machine etc), a very comfortable lounge (we watched A LOT of Netflix) and the master bedroom has a double bed with a great view over the lake. There is also a sauna (which we didn't use as the weather was too nice). The main attraction is obviously the outdoor space which is phenomenal - you can BBQ, sit by the fire pit or nap in the hammock all whilst situated next to the lake and the stunning Adirondack backdrop. We particularly enjoyed an early morning/late evening kayak on the lake (which is also warm enough to swim in), it really is beautiful. The house is also surrounded by trees giving you total privacy from neighbours. The house is situated a short drive away from plenty of hiking trails - Auger Falls is a nice hike to start off with and we then ventured up Mt Hadley where the views are incredible. Wells and Speculator are nice places for a stroll (try the Well Coffee shop, newly opened and the owner is incredibly helpful if you need advice on the area). They are small though so make sure you stock the car up with food and drink in Amsterdam on the drive up. Maura was a brilliant host from start to finish - great communication, full of advice and the info packs she sends are incredibly helpful if you don't know the area. I would 100% rent Charley Lake (or one of her other properties) again. If you're looking to escape for a few days and want somewhere for total relaxation, this is the place for you.
We rented the Lake Pleasant cabin from this same host some months ago and right away we wanted to rent the Charley Lake house as well! So glad we did it because we absolutely loved it!!! The house is so beautiful and the rustic decor makes it the perfect getaway house straight out of a movie set! Speaking of movies...the big tv screen is perfect for cozy movie nights! We highly recommend this place for anyone who loves nature, outside activities and overall having an amazing relaxing time!
The house was clean and well maintained. Absolutely stunning view of the lake and mountains from jusy outside the house. So quiet and peaceful. We loved using the fireplace and firepit and canoe. The kitchen. is awesome, fully stocked. Maura was always very communicative, responding quickly to any questions we had. We would definitely stay again.
We spent several days mid-week at Charley Lake, had a wonderful time. Maura took care of all the details and was very responsive and helpful. The cabin is in a quiet but accessible location on the small lake, is very nicely appointed, spacious, and well-connected to the environment outside. We swam, canoed the lake each day, listened to the loons, watched the fish jump, sat in the sauna, hiked the mountains and rivers nearby. There was so much to be interested in outside that we never got around to turning the TV on.
We stayed at the cabin for 5 days over the 4th of July week. Charley Lake was very peaceful and quiet. The house itself was gorgeous and had so many cute touches. My son loved the sleeping loft. Between the front porch, deck, fire-pit area and lake there were many outdoor spaces to enjoy. The lake was small enough that I felt comfortable with my 12 year old son taking the paddleboard and kayak out. We spent most of the week just relaxing. We enjoyed making smore's and playing an intense game of monopoly. We drove into Speculator for groceries and visited the Timberlane Cafe for yummy sandwiches and coffee. We would definitely rent one of Maura's properties again.
We arrived just before dark so it was somewhat surreal. However, when we saw how charming and nicely appointed and laid out your home was, we knew we'd come to the right place. Each room had its own particular feel to it -- from the openness of the living room and the semi-loft bedroom with a wonderful perspective to the cozy bedroom with the mini-loft. After our long drive, we all slept very well, as the temperature inside was just right. When we awoke in the morning, we were treated to a fab view of the lake -- with more than enough "toys" to enjoy it -- a kayak, canoe, and standing surfer -- not to mention the sauna and other woodsy amenities. We tried to balance relaxing "at home" with checking out the beautiful scenery -- especially waterfalls -- within easy driving distance. We think we managed to accomplish that. I was lucky enough to be able to hire an expert on local hikes and he took me to a magnificent overlook after a strenuous hike, and then an even lengthier one to an incredibly special "staircase-like" falls (Jimmy Crick?) that is one of the nicest I've seen anywhere. He was very knowledgeable and tolerant of a city slicker like myself, but drove me the appropriate amount (what I could take) so that I felt a great sense of accomplishment. The family also went on a very nice hike to another falls and to a nice boardwalk nature trail in Speculator; there they also have a mini-village from the 40s (?) that is really cool as well as a genuine market that almost seems like a timepiece itself. Maura was very responsive to any questions we had and definitely read the guide she has developed to the house and the surrounding area -- full of useful information. In sum, it's a combination of factors that make this home, lake, and surrounding area a special place to visit. We left feeling we had enjoyed a very different, yet at the same time, very comfortable locale and experience. We highly recommend it and hope to come back again before too long.
Thank you for sharing your home with us. The property is clean and well maintained. However, this is more a summer gateway. It is private in winter, but in summer your neighbors are extremely close. Not too many hikes close to the property. We will stick with the high peaks area and go back to Keene Valley. Best regards, Adina
I loved the cabin and the little lake. The whole setting provided a restful time away from home and work. Mid-October meant almost no neighbors. The quiet itself was healing. The wood stove easily heated the cabin & the furnace did not run until the last day when I had to clean the ashes out. Well-equipped kitchen. Wonderful library of books, too!
This property has all the amenities of home. The owners have taken the time to attend to every detail for our comfort. The property is beautiful overlooking Charley lake. This is our third time vacationing here and we definitely will be back next year in both summer and fall . We highly recommend this vacation getaway.
This Adirondack home is a hidden gem. The property itself is beautiful, the amenities and decor tasteful and comforting. We bring our family to the mountains every Fall and this, by far, was our favorite. I'm not sure if it was easy access to nearby trails, the solitude of being engulfed by the mountains lit up with the colors of Fall or the sauna! That was phenomenal!! We highly recommend a stay here!!
My wife and I decided to plan a last minute anniversary weekend trip to the Adirondaks and located this property...and we were so pleased we did! The level of communication with Maura was excellent from the beginning and she quickly answered my inquiry. She kept in contact with us during our trip up to the lake to provide us updates on the power outage (unfortunate). We arrived after sunset so we were unable to really appreciate the beauty and serenity of this unbelievable location until sunrise the next morning. This type of property and its location were exactly what I had desired and envisioned-peace, quiet, nature, and spending quality time together to relax. This property certainly delivered it all. We never even missed having cell service. We had the lake mostly to ourselves. The setting is perfect, the owner is professional and friendly, and the time we spent at this lake house was priceless. We are already planning our return trip.
This is our new favorite spot in the Adirondacks. We had hoped for a place where we could relax and have fun with our four children without the need to hop in the car, and that is exactly what we found at Charlie Lake. The owners have thought of everything. The kitchen, though small, was very well equipped, and it was easy to prepare almost all of our meals there. The sandy, shallow-edged lake was wonderful for our youngest, a non-swimmer, and we all enjoyed the kayak, canoe, and paddleboard. This is a great lake for swimming (not as cold as some deeper, larger lakes). The setting is quiet, and we loved waking up to the sound of loons calling to one another on the water. On a cold day, we enjoyed the indoor woodstove, and on warmer mornings, we all ate breakfast on the deck overlooking the lake. The cabin itself feels much larger than it is, due to its excellent design and soaring ceiling. Everything was clean and comfortable. We cannot recommend this property enough. This is a very, very special place.
Our small family (husband, two grown sons and myself) stayed for five days and really wish we had stayed longer!!! I can't say enough about this vacation...in fact, the two boys are still talking about how it's been one of their favorite vacations. The cabin is situated right on the lake so you wake in the morning with this gorgeous view that you can't get most other places. We would take our coffee out on the deck and just meditate before starting our day. I have a very difficult time "chillin" but if you can't relax here, you can't relax anywhere. We made use of nature's recreation: we hiked and kayaked. We drove to Lake Placid (where we took the gondola ride to the top of Whiteface Mountain) - we highly recommend that. We also drove to Lake George where we went on a dinner cruise. In our opinion, we liked the tranquility of Charley Lake much better than the hubbub of Lake George. We visited Lake Pleasant that's located in the village of Speculator (a short drive from Charley Lake). We enjoyed our time there - it's very quaint. We liked reading the chalkboard in the little convenience store that stated when and where moose had been spotted. The cabin is beautiful, well-maintained and has pretty much everything you'd need on vacation, including firewood. My one son kept saying we were "glamping" (glamour camping) - as we sipped our wine around the campfire. This was our first trip to the Adirondacks and we know we'll be back...and we hope to stay at Charley Lake again. Thanks for allowing us to rent your gorgeous place.
Visited Maura's lake Charley cabin a few weeks ago for my birthday. The cabin was in beautiful condition and every detail was layed out for us from hiking trail directions to sauna instructions. The canoe was the perfect way to unwind and catch some bluegills! They really couldn't have done anything to make us feel more comfortable. 10/10 perfect weekend. I cannot wait to revisit later in the summer! Thank you! -Andy & Sarah
I arrived at the Charlie Lake house in the late afternoon. It was immaculately clean yet welcoming. It exceeded the wildest expectations of my guests and I. Maura and Dave were communicative and available if we needed anything. The amenities can't be beat and Charlie Lake was beautiful and serene. One warning: noise carries over the lake! Be careful with any late night swimming or boating. The entire process of renting was stress free, I would refer anyone to Maura and Dave if they're looking to rent.
House is amazing. Owners thought of everything, I mean everything, Viking range and ultra-purified water in the kitchen. So much fun to kayak, hike and explore. The master loft bedroom allows the moon shine in at night and views of the Charlie lake in the morning all while laying in your sleep number super comfy bed. Tons of floor to ceiling Windows bring the outdoor in. Communication was quick and thoughtful. Thank you for Taking such great care of us. Henderson family.
This cabin is gorgeous and very well maintained. The wood floors and wooden spiral staircase were beautiful and the cabin was very clean when we arrived. The side of the cabin facing the lake is filled with full-length windows, which provide a beautiful view of the lake and allow natural sunlight to flood the cabin during the day. There is no cell phone service at the cabin, but they do have Wi-Fi and a Netflix account you can take advantage of. For those who prefer to stay a little more unplugged during their vacation, there are plenty of things to do. There are books in the cabin, a few board games (including a chess/checker set), an outdoor fire pit, a sauna, and a beautiful lake just steps away. There are also many hiking opportunities in the area. We had beautiful weather on our trip, so we spent our days outside exploring the Adirondacks. On the first day, we set out to see some waterfalls. We drove to Auger Falls, which is just off Route 30, and hiked along the river to get to the waterfalls. They were amazing! It was a short hike with beautiful scenery. We would definitely recommend checking this out. After Auger Falls, we drove a little further down Route 30 and found our way to Austin Falls. They were pretty, but we didn’t think they were as breathtaking as Auger Falls. On the second day, we drove up to Johnsburg and hiked a trail into Second Pond in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. The trailhead is at the end of Chatiemac Rd. off Route 8. This was a longer hike (~5.4 miles) and the views weren’t that great, but it was good exercise. Since we stayed at the cabin in April, many of the nearby restaurants were closed. We were a little disappointed that we didn’t get to try one of the local restaurants, but we enjoyed making dinner together in the cabin's full kitchen. The cabin is located in a fairly remote area, so there are no big grocery stores around. We would recommend stocking up on food before you head to the cabin or on your way and transporting it in a cooler. We used the indoor wood fireplace for two of the three nights we were there. The owners left clear instructions on how to operate it, and it did a great job of heating up the cabin. The owners make the reservation process simple and seamless. All communication was through e-mail and they were very prompt with their responses. We had a wonderful time on our weekend getaway. We hope to return someday and would recommend this rental to our family and friends. Lindsay and Aaron
Gorgeous location in the heart of nature. This cabin is perfect for secluded getaways or a place far away from the maddening crowd to work or study. Perfect score for cleanliness and decor. Simple and clean. Great view of the lake and mountains. Good kitchen amenities for those that love to cook. Cant say anything bad about this place. The owner Maura even sent a local friend to help me out when my car battery had died. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our trip at Charlie Cabin! The cabin itself is very clean, well taken care of, well furnished and most importantly cozy. We loved sitting by the dinning room table, having breakfast and enjoying the view of the lake. In the evening we spent our time sitting by the fireplace and watching movies on the big screen T.V. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare and enjoy a meal (utensils, plates, cups, knives, pots, pans, bowls, baking pans, measuring cups, etc.). We truly enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the cabin. Outside the house there is a fire pit and Adirondack chairs which can be enjoyed during anytime of the year. Not too far from the house (about a 15 minute ride from the house) you will find Oak Mountain. This is a great place to ski. We enjoyed that it was small, not crowded, friendly and affordable. All in all, we had a wonderful time and would love to come back in the summer. Don't hesitate and book a stay today!
We were only able to spend a few days at this lovely property and wish we could have stayed longer. It's incredibly welcoming, tastefully decorated, has everything you could need AND has a fantastic view of the lake. We received a nice note the day of our arrival from the property owner checking in on us and asking if there was anything else we needed. All in all a great experience and I would love to go back.
This is the perfect place to come and stay on your next trip to the Adirondacks! The home is beautifully maintained and well equipped with everything you'll need to have the perfect stay. The location itself, within the park, is also a perfect base to get out in any direction to see as much as you can. Great hikes are just about right out the back door. Charley lake is perfectly peaceful and quiet this time of year and the foliage was gorgeous. We spent time in the canoe and kayak fishing for pickerel (which was a blast!) and warmed up to a nice fire indoors when we got in. Maura has done a beautiful job here and has made sure down to every last detail that you will have a wonderful stay here on Charley lake!
This was the most picturesque location and beautiful house. The views were amazing. The back wall of the house is all windows so I would enjoy looking out from when I awoke in the morning until going to sleep at night. We had so much fun using the kayak, canoe, and paddle board. We went out in them daily. We also enjoyed sitting outside in the chairs, talking, knitting, and listening to audio books. We took so many pictures. The woodwork and furnishing inside were beautiful. It has the best stocked kitchen I have ever used on a vacation. It was almost like cooking at home and I actually enjoyed cooking there! The whole house was extremely clean and well cared for. We enjoyed the place so much that we only went out to nearby Spectacular once. If you are looking for a place to get away, enjoy nature, or just relax I would highly recommend this place.
This was our second time at the property and felt we had to share this little piece of heaven with those who would appreciate a tranquil, off the beaten path location rather than a busy noisy setting. If you are a party animal, I would suggest you go to a different place. But if a peaceful serene location is what you are looking for; welcome to paradise. The sounds of a distant Loon and wild nature all around you are only enhanced with leafs swaying in the wind. The cabin is clean and gorgeous. They have done a very thorough job of supplying you with everything you might need for your comfort, from indoor, outdoor firewood and adequate toiletries to the well stocked kitchen with kitchenware, dinnerware, silverware and wine glasses. Even picnic supplies like, plastic plates, glasses, salad bowls and pitchers. I love cooking and honestly, I felt at home in this well stocked kitchen. Just bring your groceries and leave everything else at home. Also don't forget your fishing rod, the lake holds huge Small and Lagemouth Bass, (caught and released a fat 2 and a half pounder.) "no fish story, I do have pictures." also caught countless Sunnies and Crappies. Our overall experience was nothing short of magical, this is one of those rare finds where everything just seemed perfect. We couldn't be happier with this property or the flawless, informative experience we had with Maura (The Proprietor), we can't wait for our next trip. Joe and Grisel
We could not have asked for a better host or stay at Charlie Lake. The cabin is very clean and well kept. Almost everything you would need to stay is already there and waiting for you. Having all of the watercraft was an absolute bonus. We all really enjoyed fishing from the canoe, and kyaking around this beautiful and peaceful lake. Our 3 school aged kids enjoyed watching the wildlife, roasting marshmallows by the firepit, fishing, or just swimming and playing around in the shallow sandy lake's edge. Maura was great to work with... she was easy to get in touch with and any questions i had were quickly answered. Our family had a wonderful and relaxing week together at Charlie Lake.
A beautiful home with a wonderful setting. My family and I really enjoyed our stay on Charlie lake in Wells. The owners were very helpful and maintain a nicely organized, clean home. It was an added bonus to have the watercraft there to use and we all got to use the sauna! There is everything you need here. We also ventured out on hikes to local waterfalls and enjoyed the nearby towns. A great home!
We enjoyed this property very much. The cabin has a great feel with some very nice touches. It is well equipped and very clean. The owners were very easy to work with and very responsive. A nice aspect of the property is the recreational equipment provided, that is definitely a plus. The cabin has a great location on a small lake. There were nice neighbors close by so the area has a welcoming feel to it. The house is fairly secluded, although the neighbors property on one side is rather close. That property was only occupied for one evening while we were there. The cabin might have a more active atmosphere if that property is occupied. It really was a very enjoyable stay at the cabin and in the area with so much to do. We would definitely rent this cabin again and rent from these owners especially. The best part of the stay was sitting by the fire in the evenings and listening to the calls of the loons on the lake. The cabin truly is a wonderful and peaceful place. The
Just returned from a wonderful long weekend at this beautiful home on Charley Lake in Wells, NY. The serene setting is perfect for getting away from it all. The home has wonderful amenities including a sauna, canoe, stand-up paddle board, dock and a fire pit for bonfires. Inside it is in immaculate condition with beautiful knotty pine interior, very comfortable living/dining room and a great spiral staircase leading to the loft bedroom. There are also two other bedrooms on the main floor. Maura was very easy to work with and quick to answer any and all questions we had. Using her very helpful list of fun things to do, we explored a cable bridge, hiked to several water falls and explored the neighboring towns. We had been to Speculator several times so we decided to go south on route 30 to Northville where we had dinner and enjoyed ice cream afterward. We would definitely return to explore some of the shops on future trips. Even a full day of rain was enjoyable in the comfort of the cabin binge watching Netflix. We would highly recommend this home to anyone who just wants to unplug and get away. We will definitely be back.
